Jack Harberd - Tenor
He performs regularly with ensembles including the Monteverdi Choir, Tenebrae, BBC Singers, Collegium Vocale Gent, Siglo de Oro, ORA Singers, The Carice Singers, Corvus Consort, The Ulster Consort, VOCES8, and APOLLO5. He records film and video game soundtracks with London Voices, and holds a regular position with the choir of St Marylebone Parish Church, London. His singing has been broadcast on national and international television and radio.
Praised for his interpretation of Baroque opera, Jack's Purcell credits include multiple performances of Dido and Aeneas, The Fairy Queen, and King Arthur for HGO, Keble Early Music Festival, and others. Further opera credits include a Greek-chorus influenced Tritone II in Gavin Bryars Marilyn Forever (Oxford Contemporary Opera), and a Trojan Soldier and Chorus in Berlioz Les Troyens (Monteverdi Choir, awarded Best Chorus at Oper! Awards 2024).
Equally at home with Handel and Britten, Jack’s solo undertaking includes recent performances of Messiah, St Nicolas, and Rejoice in the Lamb, as well as a recital programme of Beethoven’s folk song repertoire, and a collection of songs for Remembrance Day.
Jack has performed at many of Europe's top concert halls, including the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Philharmonie de Paris, Berlin Philharmonie, Opéra Royal de Versailles, and Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw. At Ameins Cathedral he sang solo for world leaders and other distinguished guests for a ceremony to mark the centenary of the Battle of Amiens.
He is an alumnus of young artist programmes run by the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras, The Sixteen, VOCES8, and National Youth Choirs of Great Britain. In addition he has received coaching from Roderick Williams, Dame Emma Kirkby, Jean-Paul Fouchécourt, Rachel Nicholls, Sophie Daneman, and Mark Padmore.
Jack was raised in Norwich and Oxford, and read a music degree at the University of York. Before his singing career, Jack was a specialist music researcher for music television, and worked on documentaries about Bernard Haitink, Michael Tippett, and Queen Elizabeth II, and on the BBC Proms 2021 coverage. He now undertakes ad hoc research work, advising on classical music and musicians.
